The Status Bar
..not to be confused with the Character Status window.
Part 1 in a series of posts designed to help new players get to grips with the Lineage II interface. Please leave comments and let me know of any inaccuracies and any areas you would like me to focus on next.
This nice and neat bar displays the basic information which you should be monitoring most of the time during play, specifically in Player vs Enemy and Player vs Player combat. Here you will find your Combat Points, Hit Points, Mana Points, Experience Progress and Vitality level. You can also view your level in the upper right hand corner. I will not be going over the statistics of each item, only a brief overview.
The HP meter is a measure of your maximum and current health level. Should your current health reach 0, you will be killed. This is displayed in numerical and graphical, in the form of a bar. As you can see here, the blood-red colour is your current HP and the dark red, or background, shows the maximum. When your HP is below 30% the remaining portion of your life will begin flashing.
The MP meter acts rather similar to the HP bar except it doesn't flash below 30% and you won't die once it hits 0. Skills and magic will use MP, providing it's available. Check the 'tooltip' for each skill to see how much MP it will consume once it has been cast or used. Most skills, specifically magical one, will use a portion of the indicated MP to begin casting and once the casting is complete, the remainder is taken. This is to preserve MP should your cast be interrupted. Once you have too little MP to use a skill or cast magic, you will hear a short error noise.
Combat Points are used up in Player vs Player combat only and are taken prior to your HP when engaged in such a situation. CP acts as a buffer for your HP and will decrease just as your HP would if you were in PvE. Healing Potions and healing magic do not recover CP, the only way to do this is via specific skills from high level characters or through items known as CP potions. CP is regenerated over time, just as HP is.
Your experience is shown as a thick grey bar at the bottom of your status bar, this displays your progress towards your next level. Once this reaches 100% you will either level up immediately or after your next kill. Below that you will find a vitality bar which is thinner than your experience bar and shows the progress towards the next vitality level. Vitality provides a bonus to your experience and I will cover this at a later date. The 4 horizontal bars to the left of your experience show your vitality level - hover your mouse over them to show your current level. It is possible to move and re-size your bar so that it's positioned in a suitable place for your liking. The vertical bar on the right is where you should click+hold to move and the thinner bar on the right will allow you to re-size. Mostly, this will remain in the location you place it, even after a re-start.
If, for some strange reason, you wish to hide the status bar, simply press the default combination of Shift+Alt+S. Press the same key combination to return it into view. If you ever lose visibility of your status bar or any other window, press the default combination of Alt+I (i) to reset the entire user interface to factory settings.
I hope that's answered a few questions you may have had on the status bar - it's extremely similar to most other RPGs you may have played with a few added extras.
Good luck and happy grinding!
